The Union Review: Movie Available on Netflix, on August 16

For my part, I think Mark Wahlberg is great. I enjoy binge-watching his earlier work. But his new material? Well, I can’t say I’ve enjoyed any since Daddy’s Home in 2015.

And Halle Berry—holy crap. Good God, she’s gorgeous!

The Union, an action thriller film starring Mark and Halle Berry, became available on Netflix on August 16, 2024.

More About the Story

The movie opens with a failed espionage attempt in a European city, where the good guys—members of a covert organisation known as “The Union,” headed by Tom (J.K. Simmons) and Roxanne (Halle Berry)—are eliminated.

Mikey gets chosen by “The Union” for a mission in London to obtain an unidentified intelligence item despite his lack of qualifications.

Action scenes at well-known London locales are peppered throughout the movie with inadvertently humorous cultural references. The action-comedy formula is well-known, and Berry and Wahlberg have a nice chemistry.

Despite having strong lead performances and realistic stunts, the movie ultimately feels like a shallow background picture.
